What to Wear to a Formal Date
Valentine's Day is one special day when most
couples, dating or married, love to dress up and go out for formal
dates and romantic evenings together. Go all out and woo your
Valentine on this romantic evening. Just keep in mind that formal
here implies 'cocktail', not 'white tie'.
For Women
Dress
Dress up for the most special and intimate evening
party. Make it special as you are getting dressed up for the most
special person in your life. The place or the restaurant will
dictate how formal you need to dress up. Now is the time to go in
for bold, smart and sexy cocktail and evening dresses but take care
that they are not too revealing and that your dress helps maintain
your dignity at all times. Jewel tones, metallics and bright party
colors like black, purple, maroon, deep blue are perfect for the
occasion.
Handbags
A clutch bag, high on the bling factor is a
must-have for formal evenings. Alternatively barrel-shaped bags with
handles also look great. Don't carry large handbags at all.
Shoes
High heels are a must and should only be avoided in
your guy is shorter or exactly equal to you in height. Go for open
or closed toe shoes depending upon your dress. Strappy sandals look
very beautiful.
Accessories
Go high on the bling quotient but choose wisely the
number of accessories you add to your outfit. If your dress is
shimmery, minimal jewelry will look best. If you have, go in for
real gold, pearls or diamonds instead of junk jewelry. A pretty
shawl will help you stay warm.
For Men
Dress
The restaurant you choose to visit will decide your
dress code but mostly, you will not be required to wear a
three-piece suit. Formal pants with party wear shirts will suffice
and look great. All top stores and brands are bringing out loads of
party wear shirts and you are sure to find one that you like. You
can also go in for the classic smart and formal look instead of
trying a new style. If the place is slightly more casual, you can
choose to pair a nice shirt with dark jeans.
Shoes
Formal shoes or good sneakers (if wearing jeans)
should be something you need to prepare for ahead of time. Make sure
your shoes are well-polished and shined and sneakers are squeaky
clean.
Accessories
A good tie that is not ultra-formal will look great.
A good belt and a wallet are other accessories that are a must.
